I have a few must-haves whenever we travel: 1. my old trusty DSLR 2. my laptop so I can work wherever there’s wifi or stable LTE/3G connection 3. comfortable and durable shoes. The last one is critical for whether we are exploring a secluded island away from the city or traversing an urban jungle which often entails a lot of walking to keep up with the flow of the busy metropolis.
The iconic Chuck Taylors have always been a safe choice whenever I am looking for light-weight and travel friendly kicks. Now, infused with Nike’s Lunarlon technology for superior full foot cushioning and arch support, they have become the ultimate travel shoes that are perfect to use and abuse wherever we go.
A current favorite is the Chuck Taylor All Star Woven sneakers which comes in simplistic black leather upper contrasted by electric cobalt blue color backing and details. I’d imagine this to be perfect with jeans but it looks just as cool when you’re wearing shorts.
The fully weatherized Chuck Taylor All Star Rubber sneaker came handy on our last trip to a private island surrounded by a lake. It has a full rubberized upper that helps repel water, waxed laces that keeps it watertight, a gusseted tongue that provides additional protection from getting wet, and an inner French Terry lining that keeps the feet warm. This one passed an actual test that I did running around by the lake under the rain. I’d leave the running part to your imagination but here’s a photo by the lake – mud and all.
Finally, my most favored whenever I am travelling light and can only bring a single pair of shoes – the Chuck Taylor All Star II Mono that comes in monochrome black and parchment. With its classic design and color, I have used this exploring a rugged trail and also on a dinner where I didn’t want to look too old and formal.
